A Boutique with a Purpose ~ Hope Resale

Nestled in the heart of Montgomery, Texas, Hope Resale is more than just a thrift store—it’s a boutique with a mission. This hidden gem offers an eclectic variety of high-quality, affordable items, from fashionable clothing to unique furniture pieces that can transform any space.

What truly sets Hope Resale apart is its deeper purpose. As a non-profit organization, every purchase goes beyond a great deal—it directly supports meaningful community outreach.

“When you shop here, you’re not just finding a stylish outfit or trendy décor; you’re helping make a difference in the lives of others,” said Lori Stone.

The boutique is known for its friendly staff and volunteers, always ready to offer assistance with a smile, and its wide selection that caters to every shopper. Having this shop is important to Stone “because James 1:27 speaks directly to the heart of what it means to live out our faith: ‘Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” “This verse isn’t just a suggestion—it’s a call to action, reminding us that true faith is shown through how we care for those in need” Stone said. “It’s not enough to talk about love; we have to show it in tangible, meaningful ways. Living out this Scripture is essential because it challenges us to reflect God’s heart in our daily

lives, and that’s a responsibility I take seriously.”

Stone’s journey began in Conroe, Texas, 30 miles north of Houston. Raised in church and meeting Jesus as a young girl of four in Sunday school, faith was the foundation of her early years. Attending Christian school her whole life, it seemed she was on a clear path. But at 17, Lori chose to walk away from it all—Jesus, church, and the life she had known. She moved far from home to pursue a career on her own terms, seeking success and independence. For eight long years, she wandered. Yet, during that time, God never let go. He patiently pursued her, calling her back to His heart. Finally, at 26, she fully surrendered her life to Christ at Second Baptist Church in Houston.

Returning to Conroe, Lori’s life took a dramatic turn. She began volunteering at a local church, and a year later, she met the man who would become her husband, Tim. He was called to Conroe to serve as the youth pastor. Their connection was instantaneous, and they were

married two years later, embarking on a journey together in both part-time and full-time ministry. In 2007, they were sent to Montgomery to plant Westlake Fellowship, and their hearts began asking the deeper questions: “How can we make a greater impact? How can we serve

our community beyond the four walls of our church? How do we carry hope into the marketplace?”

It was during these reflections that Tim began envisioning something new—a non-profit resale shop that could not only spread hope but also generate resources to meet the needs of their community. Tim’s vision was clear, but he knew that he wasn’t the one called to run it.

In 2021, Lori felt God’s undeniable nudge. She knew it was her time to step up and bring that dream to life. With a passion for helping widows, single parents, and orphans, she saw the shop as a beautiful opportunity to give back in ways she and Tim had always longed to but never had the means to do so.

From the very beginning, serving the underserved had been at the heart of Westlake Fellowship. Even before they held their first service, the church was reaching out—mowing lawns, doing repairs, and meeting the practical needs of widows and single parents. It was a natural extension of their ministry to establish the shop and direct the proceeds to help these

very people.

For 12 years, Lori and Tim hosted an annual “Closet Swap” at the church, transforming it into a free boutique where anyone in the community could come and take what they needed. Leftovers were donated to various resale shops across town. In 2022, those final remnants became the foundation for what would become Hope Resale.

From day one, their mission has been clear: to extend hope and love to orphans and families

wanting to adopt. Partnering with the Show Hope Foundation, a vetted non-profit with a heart for orphans that mirrors Christ’s, the shop provides grants to ease the financial burden of adoption. Though building orphanages is not their focus, providing tangible support for

adoptive families is where their passion lies.

Through all the twists and turns, one thing remains constant: God’s hand guiding and

transforming each step. Lori’s story is one of redemption, purpose, and answering God’s

call. Her past wandering led to a present filled with hope—a hope that now pours out into the

community through every sale and every life touched by Hope Resale.

It’s more than just a shop. It’s a beacon of hope, a ministry, and a testament to what happens

when we say “yes” to God’s leading. As Lori puts it, “Our dream is to give HOPE a name and

a purpose—so when people feel like they have nothing to offer, we can show them the One

who gives HOPE Himself!”

“Every donation, every purchase, and every volunteer hour is a step toward changing lives and making a lasting impact for the Kingdom,” Lori said.

Currently, they have about 20 volunteers who run Hope Resale but need 30 to effectively

operate the ministry. The jobs include sorting through donations, washing, ironing, pricing, organizing racks, cleaning, hauling off donations, helping customers, praying with people, organizing events for single parents, making sure the lawns get mowed, picking up donated furniture, and sometimes delivering furniture, Stone said.

“Our goal is to offer hope to everyone. So, if someone feels like they can’t give hope to

someone else, we will share hope with them by introducing them to the source of true hope—

God Himself!

Hope Resale gladly accepts a variety of items, including men’s, women’s, and kids’ clothing and

shoes, as well as home décor, furniture, purses, jewelry, baby gear, and even TVs. “Anything we can’t use in our shop gets passed on to local resale shops that share our vision.

We also support local ministry homes by providing essentials for single moms, widows, and orphans in need. Your donations help make a real difference in our community,” Stone said.

Whether you’re hunting for a bargain or wanting to contribute to a greater cause, Hope Resale is the perfect destination to shop with heart. Next time you’re in Montgomery, stop by, find something special, and be a part of their mission to uplift the community—one purchase

at a time.
